And I'm Ang Faraguto.

This is the second episode in this mini series in which we discuss some of the most you know fascinating

female characters on Netflix's original series. Last week we discussed Ozark and

this week we'll be getting into unorthodox a four-part limited series created by Anna Winger and

Alexa Carolinsky that was nominated for eight Emmys this year. And Latoya you

had the chance to talk to Anna Winger as well as Shirahas who stars in the series as

Esti a woman who escapes her conservative Hasidic community in East

Williamsburg for a new life in Berlin. Unorthodox became a surprise hit when it

debuted on Netflix in March and I think a lot thanks to the character of Esti

while many viewers may not have experience with her religion I think a lot of women can still

see themselves in Esti and leaving one community and seeking out another on your own is kind of a universal experience regardless of gender.

And just FYI, there will be spoilers for the series.

So, unorthodox star Shirahas as Esti, a 19-year-old Jewish woman who is in an unhappy marriage,

arranged marriage in an ultra-Orthodox community

in Williamsburg, as Ang noted.

She decides to run away to Berlin

to find her estranged mother and from there she discovers a whole new world a whole

new life that she was always taught to fear. In the process her husband husband, Yankee, played by Amit Rahav,

follows her to Berlin to find her and bring her back

by order of their rabbi.
