Thanks for joining. You might have noticed, and if you haven't, that's okay, that we're not

reading the book of Leviticus in this year's reading plan. This is because this year, we are only

reading the historical narrative books of the Old Testament, which is a fancy way of saying

we're only reading the books of the Bible or the books of the Old Testament that move the

story forward. That said, we haven't included

Leviticus in this year's reading plan, but don't fret, here's what you're missing.

Leviticus takes place after the Israelites have been freed from slavery in Egypt. They'd been set

apart, given the law, they damaged the covenant, that's the golden calf incident,

and yet God still wanted his presence to live in the tabernacle amidst his people. However,

Moses, Israel's leader, couldn't enter the tent of meeting. Unholy Moses couldn't stand in the

presence of God. So the first verse of Leviticus reads, the Lord called Moses and

spoke to him from the tent of meeting. God was in the tent and Moses was not. And that is what the book

of Leviticus is all about. The way to a holy God and the way to walk with a holy God, as we learned in the

understand Leviticus, we have to understand that God is holy. He's set apart. In Israel,

who is broken and unholy, seeks to live inside of God's holiness. And to do so,

they've got to become holy themselves. As the Bible Project guys so wisely put it, the solution

to this problem lies in the book of Leviticus. And in this book, we find instructions for rituals,
