I'm Jeremy Skahill coming to you from the offices of the Intercept in New York City,

and this is a bonus episode of Intercepted.

For the past year of the Trump presidency, I think all of us have had this shared experience of an intense sort of political vertigo.

And I believe this situation is making us dumber by the day.

Now, obviously part of this is due to the fact that Donald Trump is president, and he keeps out doing himself every time you think that there's some scandal that's going to harm him.

He then trumps it with yet another scandal, even before we even can start discussing the previous one.

It's really exhausting and brain melting.

But everyone in media is sort of chasing the same rabbit in an away. All of us are complicit.

And when we're constantly chasing the rabbit or we're on the run, it becomes very difficult to take stock of what's actually happening when you're just following the tick-tock of every day's breaking news, you can't really step back and say,

how did we get to where we are today?

We've all become sort of detached from our reality and in some cases our own work.

Having said that, as I contemplated this year of living with Trump, I thought it would be really fascinating to talk to David Harvey about this moment.

David Harvey is one of the leading Marxist thinkers in the world.

He's also an authority on Marx's DOS Copy TAL, which turned 150 years old late last year.

David Harvey is a distinguished professor of anthropology and geography at the City University of New York.

He also pioneered the discipline of modern geography.

And David has a new book out. It's called Marx Capital and the Madness of Economic Reason.
