Welcome to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. The Bible tells one big story

0:06.7

of redemption, and we want to spend five minutes every day, journeying through

0:12.1

the Bible from start to finish, and exploring how all of it points to Jesus.

0:22.8

Hey everybody and welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name

0:28.2

is Crystal, and in today's episode, we will be discussing the minor prophets. In our last

0:33.7

bonus episode, Kristen talked all about dreams and visions in the prophets, and so if you haven't

0:39.4

listened to that, go check it out. So she technically covered Hosea in her episode, but I'm going

0:45.3

to overlap as we be covering the minor prophets. If someone were to ask you what the minor

0:50.8

prophets were all about, what would you say? Sure, we just read them in rapid succession, so we

0:57.6

have the details, but sometimes we are still left with a lot of questions. It can feel like a lot

1:03.9

to keep up with. The writings of the minor prophets were recorded over a few hundred years, and they

1:10.4

prophesied generally during the times of kings and chronicles, so it could be helpful to place the

1:15.8

prophet within its historical context when possible. Study Bibles and even resources like the Bible

1:22.7

Handbook from the Daily Grace Co will give you all of that information. So let's chat about some

1:28.6

important things for us to remember anytime we are reading one of the prophets. In order for us to

1:33.9

do that, we need to go all the way back to Genesis. Yes, all the way back. In Genesis 12 verse 2,

1:41.5

God tells Abram, I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name

1:47.4

great and you will be a blessing. And he says in verse 3, that all the nations will be blessed

1:53.3

through Abram. God intends to use Abram and his descendants, the people of Israel, to be a blessing

2:00.4

to other nations. Israel is to reflect God to the people around them. But as you've read, the people

2:07.3

of God have failed to live up to the standards that God has set for them. So with that context,

2:13.8

let's talk about some things that are going to help us to better understand the prophets.
