Hi everyone, this is Ali. We're about to bring you an interview with Travis Coons, who's a curator at the Oregon Zoo.

0:06.0

He specializes in birds, which means he knows a lot about penguins, eagles, and yes, the California Condor.

0:12.9

For more information about the California Condor, including how huge it is, how it went from the brink of extinction to really making a big comeback and lots more.

Be sure to check out our standalone episode, which should be right around this interview on your

0:26.1

feed. You'll also hear in this interview some questions from people whose voices you don't know,

0:31.3

and those people are Aaron and Danielle, who work for a really great organization called Oregon Wild,

0:36.6

and they actually set up this

0:38.1

interview. They are starting their own podcast. We cannot wait to hear it. It's probably going to come

of knowledge about that animal through different interviews with different experts. And we're actually one of the experts in this

0:58.4

one, or at least one of the people asking experts questions. So you might get to hear our voices

1:02.6

on their podcast. Anyway, we can't thank Danielle and Aaron enough for setting this up, and also

1:07.8

the Oregon Zoo and Travis for this really, really fascinating interview about

1:12.8

the Condor, a bird that went from 22 animals total to now almost 500, thanks to the help of people

1:19.9

like Travis and others at the Oregon Zoo. The sound quality is a little bit rough in this episode,

1:25.2

and unfortunately I don't have the skills to make it perfect. You may not know this, but it rains in Oregon a lot, and it was raining the day that we

1:32.4

went to see the Condors outdoors at the zoo. So you may hear some background noise. We hope you

1:37.1

listen, though, because Travis tells us some truly cool facts about this super cool bird. All right, well thank you so much, Travis for me.

1:50.0

What does the Oran Zoo program do?

1:53.0

Yeah, so we have a California conduit here, and the primary purpose is breeding for release back into the wild,

whether that's
