Hi, I'm Haley Scrivener. My debut novel was Dirt Creek, which is being serialized as part of this season of Case Closed. I'm also the author of Girl Falling,

which will be out in North America in March. Hi, I'm Derville McTiernan. I'm the author of The Ruin and what happened to

Nina, among other books. And I'm thrilled to be joining Haley today for this audiobook bonus

conversation about her fabulous novel. Haley, I know that we were not always authors. We have a

history. And we should probably share that with our listeners who haven't come encountered us before. You in particular had some very specific job experience that is relevant

to this book. And if I try to describe it, I've got it completely wrong. Can you fill us in?

Yes, I do know what you're hinting at because I haven't had that many interesting or extreme

jobs. I would think I've done my fair share of admin. But in my 20s, I somehow

ended up getting a job on telecommunication kind of radio sites. And then that escalated to me

getting, I basically was trained to affect a rescue at heights. So as part of a two-person team,

they would always call it a two-man team in the training. I'd be like, hello, I'm here.

And essentially, so one person would climb the tower to do the maintenance, and I'm not an

engineer. I wasn't doing that part. But when someone is climbing in that way, you need someone

on the ground who is trained to affect a rescue at heights. So I went and I did this training.

And as part of that, to graduate, you had to rescue someone from the simulated tower that

they had.
