This is an interview that I conducted with Herman Hulse, who is the managing director and co-founder of Gorilla Games,

aka the studio behind this last year's excellent Horizon Zero Dawn,

which Kirk and I have talked about quite a bit.

Really cool game, Robot Dinosaurs, red-headed female protagonists.

He's just a badass, just a very good game.

I spoke to Herman for about 20 minutes.

We talked about a bunch of stuff, and yeah, I hope you

Yeah, it's been quite a year for you guys.

You guys just announced that you sold 7.6 million copies in your first year, which

is pretty huge, especially for a game that's just on one platform.

So congratulations on that.

And I guess my first

question is, is that, like, how does that compare to what you guys actually expected? I'm sure you

had internal sales, expectations, and projections. How does that compare to what you actually

expected? To be honest with you, I think it succeeded all expectations for a new IP.

We were hopeful that it was going to do well, but it's been such a success.

And the sales have had a very long and very thick tail, so it's really been selling very strong in recent months still.
