So let's shift a little bit and talk about the dad relationship.

We're tapping into your other expertise here, is the dad

podcaster. There's a weird, to me, it was a retcon. I mean, I know people said when the revelation

of Lucius being Maximus's son, there were a lot of people who said, oh, duh, it's obvious in the

first movie. It was not obvious to me in the first movie at all. I think what you find out about Lucius is that he's

about the same age as Maximus's son, who's, of course, killed by the Romans very early on.

And in that way, he becomes like a stand-in for Maximus's kid and maximus sort of adopts him in a sense

like his last last thought is you know as luci's safe as he's laying there dying in the arena

like it becomes it's it's more of a like he's a stand-in for for the kid that maximus lost but not that

i think that that that exchange between Maximus and Lucilla

makes it clear that in fact he's not Maximus's son.

Like Maximus was on to his own marriage, having his own kid with his own wife at that point,

and the relationship with Lucilla was over.
