Summary

Depending on how old your kids are, the idea of praying for their future spouse and family may feel like a stretch. But even if your child is currently toddling around your house playing with blocks and eating cheerios, it’s never too early to start praying for their future family.

Maybe it’s easier to imagine if your kids are older, but at some point in the future, your child will more than likely go and create their own family to lead. As believing parents, we all desire our kids to lead their future families in the way of the Lord.

If marriage is God’s will for your child, someday your child’s spouse will be the most important person in their life. He or she will know them the absolute best and be their partner in faith and life. Together they will, God-willing, raise beautiful children who know, love, follow, and share Jesus.

We can pray that our child will find a spouse who loves Jesus, family, the church, and be a supportive partner through the ups and downs of life. We can pray that any future grandkids will grow to love Jesus and continue on a legacy of faith. In the grand scheme of life, we only have our kids in our homes for a little while. As their parents, we have an amazing opportunity to pray for their future family starting now!

This week, let’s pray that our kids will continue to pass along a legacy of faith in their future families and homes.

Jesus, you know our past and you know our future. Today, I pray for ____'s future. If your plan for them is singleness, I pray that you will surround them with a wonderful community of friends and family and that you will always be their rock, fortress, and best friend. If your plan for them is marriage, I pray that they will find a spouse who loves you with all their heart and has a desire to raise up children who love and follow you. Thank you for the gift of family and the ability to watch my children grow into the adults you created them to be. Amen.

Now, this is one I've actually prayed for, and I don't know if it's out of fear or just

0:26.4

like I really want a bunch of great guys around and amazing grandkids and husbands that love

0:31.9

the Lord for my girls.

0:33.4

And so I've definitely prayed for this one.

0:34.8

But before we start, I just want to encourage us to look for

0:37.5

answered prayers. I feel like we've been praying big things, specific things, all year long. And that can

0:43.4

call some angst. It's like, oh, there's another thing I'm not seeing in the life of my kids. But God is

0:48.3

working. He's moving in the craziest ways. And so I pray even in this journal or even in just a note on your phone that you would

0:56.2

start recognizing, like, where God is moving and just say, oh my goodness, like that was an

1:01.6

answered prayer. And so I want to tell you a story of an answered prayer that is just so cool.

1:06.0

So my friend Jeannie Kanye, and I've had her on the podcast several times. She's a brilliant Bible

1:09.9

teacher and author. But we go back to, I'm a centric for like, we go back to Auburn, where we were in the same

1:15.4

sorority, we were partying like rock stars. Like, I think if you went back in time and we're like,

1:19.7

you know which two and this sorority are going to go on to teach the Bible and influence people to love, know, and follow Jesus, it would not have been us, is what I'm saying.

1:28.7

So just the fact that all this happens just proves they're a God.

1:32.2

But so she wrote a book that is called Closure to God.

1:36.4

It's a devotional.
