Summary

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep” (John 10:14–15)

Throughout scripture, Jesus is referred to not just as a good shepherd, but as the good shepherd. On top of all the things mentioned above, Jesus would and will lay down his life for his sheep. Not only that, but the good shepherd cares so deeply for every single sheep that he will leave the 99 to chase down one. In Luke 15, a shepherd leaves his entire flock to find one lost sheep, and when he does, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and calls all his neighbors together to have a party for his lost sheep who is now found (verses 5–6).

Jesus laid down his life for your kids. Jesus loves your kids so much that if they stray, he will not forget about them. They may seem lost to you, but they are not lost to Jesus. When they decide to return, he will rejoice over them and there will be a party in heaven!

Let’s pray our kids will surrender their lives to Jesus, follow the good shepherd always, and trust his care over their lives.

Lord, you are the good shepherd. I pray that ______________ puts their trust in you and decides to follow you. May they always know that they can run to you when they are afraid, overwhelmed, or don’t know what to do. And may they always know that if they stray, you will be waiting for their joyful return! Amen.

And now we're on to follow.

0:41.6

And so I'm excited about this section because we're getting into the weeds here.

0:45.3

But these are really important things to pray about very specifically.

0:48.8

And again, on a regular day or year, I would not be drilling down into the specifics of how my kids can follow Jesus

without this journal. So I'm excited about where we're headed. I will ask you a favor. So how did you

1:00.7

like this year's prayer journal? If you don't have it, you can still get one over at Christian

knowing, loving, following, and sharing Jesus. And so I would love to know how the format worked for you this year. I had a little

devotion. The week, obviously, table contents. It's got a prayer each time that we do it. And then

1:21.0

it's kind of got my prayers this week. So you could go through days. Would you like it split up for

1:26.0

like a section for each kid? What would that look

1:28.5

like? We're starting to work on the one for next year. So if you've got ideas around the format that

1:32.6

you desire or even the topic, feel free to send us a note. We'd love to hear what you're thinking.

1:38.3

Circling back, since the last time I did one of these episodes, a couple of things have happened.

1:42.8

First of all, the PowerPoint presentation that I mentioned last week did not go down.
