Summary

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend” (Proverbs 27:17 NLT)

Godly friends make us better, not out of shame or peer pressure, but out of a desire to see us faithful to God and pursuing his will for our lives. Godly friends know that God wants more for us than what the world has to offer, and so they will push us in that direction when we start to veer from the path.

Who our kids hang out with is important, iron sharpens iron and bad company corrupts character (1 Corinthians 15:33). Godly friends will help our kids grow in their faith and keep them accountable. Ungodly friends will bring them further and further from God’s truth.

So this week, let’s pray that our kids will be surrounded by true, godly friends and be a light to the friends around them who don’t know Jesus.

Jesus, I pray that ______________ surrounds

themselves with friends who know and love you. I pray they would encourage each other in faith, hold each other accountable, and that their friendships would draw them closer to you. Where there is conflict, may they be quick to show forgiveness, just as you forgave us. May _____________ be a light to those around them, always showing what a godly friend is. Amen.

We're on week nine, and we are praying for how our kids can specifically know God.

And this week is about faithful friends.

0:26.6

Oh, I love faithful friends.

And I think it's really painful when our kids don't have faithful friends.

0:32.3

And I will, to be honest, my kids have gone through seasons.

0:35.5

And I think this is challenging for all kids, but particularly

girls. There's some drama that goes down in different seasons of their life, and you're like,

0:42.6

well, they ever have loyal friends, and I'll be honest, my kids have been the reason. Like, they've

0:47.2

been complete to their friends, and then people have been rude to them. And so I am grateful

0:52.7

for the season of life that they're in

0:54.2

that they do have some faithful friends that are drawing them to Jesus. But it's a good thing to

0:58.9

pray about because if you're not seeing that, it can be really scary and, you know, really tough

to watch. And I will give you a very practical tip, but my kids have friends that are outside

1:10.5

of their circle of school. And so I

1:13.1

think that can be really important, whether it's friends at church that you prioritize, whether it's

1:17.2

friends from a camp. My kids have friends from their early days of when we lived in Atlanta that

1:22.3

are lifetime friends. So they always have somebody they can kind of reach out to in the times when school can get

traumatic and things like that. I've seen that be really encouraging to my girls over the years.

1:33.2

And we can honestly pray for it, that someone will come their way. And then what I encourage my kids

1:38.3

to be is the friends that they want to find. So if they're struggling, finding friends that they
