Thank you for coming to this workshop.

My name, as was said before, is Jemar Tisbee.

I serve as the president of the Reformed

African American Network. I'll tell you more about that in a moment. Before I go

further, you are in the first of four workshops hosted by the Reformed African American Network on the history of black

Christians.

And we tell this story because it's a little known story.

This is not what we tend to learn in the history books,

but it's important history because any Christian history

is our history.

And so we tell those stories this afternoon.

We're going to have a session by Dr. Alicia Jackson,

who is a professor at Covenant College,

and she's going to talk about the CME Church.

That stands for Colored Methodist Episcopal Church

and talk about the history of that.
