Or Ethiopia and Eritrea on the path to war?

These two enemies had become allies in order to fight the TPLF, but now old grievances and new disputes are threatening to revive the conflict.

Over the course of five very tumultuous years, from 2018 to 2023, the dynamics that existed between Ethiopia and Eritrea have veered from hostility to cooperation,

and now it seems ominously towards the brink of war.

The shifting relationship that we were talking about here is something that is deeply intertwined

with regional politics and power struggles, primarily revolving around Ethiopia's rather ambitious

quest to try and regain access to the Red Sea, which it had lost in 1991

after Eritrea achieved independence.

Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiyamed has consistently blamed behind closed doors the Tigray People's

Liberation Front or TPLF for accepting Eritrea's independence.

Abi has also reportedly blamed Eritrea for derailing the Pretoria peace agreement

that was signed between the TPLF and the federal government that ended Ethiopia's civil war,

something in which Eritrea had fought on the government's side against the TPLF last year.
