I wanted to give a trigger warning before this episode.

0:35.4

I've just been speaking to Alex, who is a public health researcher.

0:40.0

He is a very lovely man, incredibly knowledgeable about public health, the history of public health,

0:46.7

the history of pandemics. And we talk about all of that, and we talk about death in quite some detail, and it's not going to be

0:56.9

for everyone. Some people might find this upsetting. So if you think you might fall into that

1:01.0

category, I would skip this podcast and move on to our next podcast, which will be no doubt a

1:07.0

lighter one about Spurs. If you're interested in hearing more about the spread of viruses

1:12.2

1:16.8

then this is definitely the podcast for you.

1:19.4

Alex is amazing, he's incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly lovely.

1:24.1

So if you do listen, enjoy, and if this isn't for you, then we'll see you next time.

1:32.3

1:42.5

Hello, Wendy. Yeah. So I guess we're having this sort of interview or talk to talk a little

1:48.5

about football, project restart, the plans to deal with coronavirus and how to get back

1:56.1

to play. And I guess the reason that you are interested in talking to me is my research. I'm a PhD researcher at the University of Oxford. And my research is on infectious diseases and how the British state responds to them, particularly bubonic plague, tuberculosis and HIV. Absolutely fascinating. And it's really, really timely. Obviously. The research you're doing is timely with everything

2:17.6

that's going on in the world. That must have been quite surreal when this hit for you,

2:21.9

given that you're kind of, you're already getting used to how nations respond to infected

2:27.2

diseases. For this to happen in the middle of your PhD, it must have been quite a surprise.
