While in Berlin, Mark worked for Scientology for over 90 hours a week, earning very little money. He left Berlin in February 2008 when he was transferred to the Church of Scientology in San Francisco, where he worked until May 2008. Since leaving Scientology Mark has been regularly sharing about his experience online in the hopes that his story can help young people, especially recent college graduates, be more aware of predatory organizations like The Church of Scientology. He has continued to pursue his education and is currently enrolled in a Master's program in Budapest, Hungary where he now resides. Mark is a historian focusing on Nationalism, Language, and Jewish Culture in Late Modern Europe. In this follow-up conversation, Mark shares further details about his time as a staff member of Scientology, this time he focuses on the aftermath explaining how he managed the anger and resentment that remained after his exodus. Together Rachel and Mark unpack the complex post-cult healing process and share their respective insights on the dangers of "black & white" thinking. 1:11.9	Of course, yeah. My name is Mark Turi. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, but I'm currently
1:16.6	living in Budapest, Hungary. I've been here for roughly a year and a half. I have Hungarian family.
1:22.5	That's one of the reasons I'm here. I'm an ex-scientologist. I joined Scientology in May of 2005 when I was 22.
1:31.2	I had just graduated from community college. And I had a three-year experience ending my
1:37.2	affiliation with Scientology also in May, but of 2008. And during that time, I spent two years
1:43.7	as what's called a public Scientologist,
1:46.1	so someone who would simply go to the orgs for courses. And then the last year, I spent as a staff
1:52.3	member in two organizations. One was in Berlin, Germany for about nine months, from May of
1:58.7	2007 until February 2008.
2:01.7	And then I was transferred to the San Francisco organization where I worked from March
2:06.3	until May of 2008.
2:08.1	And then I was kind of booted off staff.
