It's another emergency episode of the 24-7 sports football recruiting podcast.

My name is Blair Angulo, joined by the director of recruiting for 24-7 sports, Steve Wilfong.

And Steve, it just came down.

Oregon coach Mario Cristobal has left for Miami. What is the immediate reaction?

0:24.8

Well, Miami adds one of the more visible head coach recruiters in the country, kind of the

0:28.6

same thing I said about Lincoln Riley to USC, Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame. These are three

0:33.9

guys that are going to go out there and really pound the payment for their programs. There's not a head coach in the country that puts more time and energy into recruiting

0:42.3

than Mario Cristobal. So Miami is not going to get lack of effort from the top of the food chain

0:48.5

in that regard. And when you look at the state of Florida, going into this season, you had

0:52.9

Coach Norvell, who I think is a good recruiter,

0:56.0

Coach Mullen, who was a suspect head coach recruiter, and then Coach Diaz, who was kind of in the

1:01.8

middle. Now I think you have three really good head coach recruiters in that league right now with Napier

1:07.2

at Florida, Mario Cristobal at Miami, and then Coach Norval still at Florida State.

1:12.5

Obviously, Christobal, a Miami alum played there, also had a stint there as a GA, a stint there as

1:19.8

an assistant coaching the tight ends in the offensive line. And I spent the past four years at

1:25.2

Oregon after being the co-offensive coordinator and the offensive

1:29.4

line coach and then taking over for Willie Taggart once Taggart left for Florida State.

1:34.3

Now, this, I think, is significant for Miami because they needed to make a splash and they

1:39.8

needed to reinvigorate the program.

1:42.3

And we touch on some of those Florida roots for Mario

1:45.4

Cristobal, but he's going to be able to recruit nationally. I think he's done enough out west
