And I'm joined by a hirsuit historian, a celebrity historian, Greg Jenner.

A historian of celebrity. Let's be very careful.

I said that deliberately provocatively to make you correct me.

But I would say, Greg, that you almost are a celebrity historian.

I do not meet my own criteria and I'm very careful about that.

Go on then, talk us through the criteria.

Oh, God. I have a checklist of what a celebrity is and there are five things on the checklist

and I do not meet them. So I'm very important that I make sure of that. Yeah, I mean,

Celebrity is a very complicated thing and I wrote a book about its history going back to the

1700s up until the

1950s because every time i talk to people about celebrity they're like oh it's modern isn't it it's

just you know famous of being famous people with no talent uh what it's a ruination of of old

school traditional sort of people being good at things and i would look at them and go no that's

not at all how it works.

Celebrity has always been many different things. So, yeah, Celebrity has five points in my checklist.

And I won't bore you with all them. But the one that's quite interesting, I think, is that for me,

celebrity is a type of economic parasitic capitalism where you're famous but the fame generates cash and money

beyond your control and I think a lot of people assume celebrities are really rich and live

amazing lavish lifestyles but actually it's quite a precarious life being famous I would hate to be

famous and um and the millionaires are you know they they have a lot of money, they've got nice houses,
