Before we start reading the book of Hebrews,

I want to set us up to better understand

what we're reading.

So here are four things you need to know.

Number one, who wrote it?

Well, the first thing you need to know is that scholars have differing views as to who wrote

this book.

We don't know who the author is.

And number two, when was it written?

Again, there are differing views, but Dr. Constable

presents two of the leading views really well. He says, in chapter two, three through four,

the author said that he and those to whom he wrote had come to faith in Jesus Christ through

the preaching of others who had heard Jesus. And in chapter 13, we find that apparently

those preachers had since died. So we're left to conclude that the original readers of this book

had been Christians for an extended period of time. So probably the earliest possible date of
