Summary

In this week's Bonus Book Update podcast, I cover the overarching theme of Babies Are Not Pizzas. It was a surprising realization for me at the end of the writing process!

What is the book about? Mainly, preventable birth trauma in a broken health care system.

This is a complex topic. Listen as I cover all the nuances of this theme, and reveal to you some of the other areas of exploration in the story.

Hi everyone and welcome to this mini podcast bonus episode about the book

0:07.2

Babies are not pizzas. In this mini episode I want to talk about the

0:12.2

overarching theme as well as some of the major

0:15.8

content areas that are covered in Babies Are Not Pizzas. So as I've talked

0:21.4

about before babies are notizzas is really a memoir. It's a story of about a 10 year

0:27.5

period of my life. And I weave the data or the evidence around my story so that hopefully people will be able to learn

0:35.7

while they're reading the story.

0:44.0

page like what happens next what happens next and I'm excited about that because it

0:48.0

means it's going to keep people engaged so that they can learn while they're also

0:51.6

reading an entertaining story.

0:54.0

I actually didn't truly realize the overarching theme of the book

0:59.0

until I got to the final chapter and I was trying to figure out how can I tie the final chapter

1:06.0

to the first initial chapter and what's the overarching theme of what was my journey all about.

1:14.0

And I finally realized that it was about birth trauma.

1:20.0

And I think one of the things that made me realize that is because as I sent

1:24.3

copies, advanced copies of the book to random people that I knew, including the

1:29.4

person who did our development adding, the person who did our copy editing, and other people who got advanced

1:36.3

copies of the near final drafts, they would say even if they had nothing to do with the birth

1:41.5

world. They were not birth professionals. They would say, oh my, I am so glad you were coming out with this book because I had a traumatic birth.

1:51.0

Dada, and then they would tell me their story.
