podcast I'm going to talk a little bit more about writing the Babies Are Not

Pizza's book and today I wanted to talk about the excitement that we experienced when we sent the book to the editor for final editing.

A few months ago I hired someone, Azul Terrones. His website is Coach Azul.com and I hired Azul

in his team to help me with the editing. We also had Kristen Pasquucci who does a lot of our editing

at Evidence Space Birth. She's been working with me helping edit this book

kind of as the book was written. But I wanted to send the book to a third party,

somebody who wasn't kind of enmeshed in what I do at

evidence-based birth, who could kind of stand back, take a look at it, and tell me what needed to be done.

There were two main phases to the editing that we did with Azul. The first phase was what we call developmental editing.

And this is when you send your book off and an editor looks at it and just kind of takes a big picture look and tells you if there's

anything missing or if this feels out of place or if there's a big mistake here or

you said something here but you didn't follow up so it's kind of looking at the big storyline of the book

and making sure that we have kind of all of our pieces in a row.

So we had already done that a couple months ago.

The editor basically gave me a to-do list of everything I needed to do to kind of

tighten up the book and get it ready for copy editing. So the second phase of the editing

process that we did with Coach Azul was the copy editing phase.

So in about the six weeks that I had or so between when we got our developmental edits back and

when we sent it to the copy editor. We were doing a ton

of work. Anna Bertoni who works here at evidence-based birth, she was doing all the fact

checking on a lot of the research studies, making absolutely sure that every citation, every
