Real quick bonus episode for you today. I figure most of you know the acquired

podcast now. Not only have the acquired guys been on the show but they really blew up this year

big profiles on them in big magazines big interviews with big tech figures big audience

growth for that show.

It turns out I've known those guys for years.

In fact, I did a crossover episode with them,

which first aired back in March of 2017,

right when that show was getting started and before this show ever even

launched. This is an Internet History podcast episode about Yahoo's acquisition of

Overture although really it's about eventually building AdWords, Google's business model.

It's funny, I believe at the end of this episode David Orben talk about having like 30 people in their

Slack channel at that point. I think they get a half a

million downloads per episode now. Times change. Anyway, enjoy this bit of

Today's episode can be thought of, I guess as an analysis episode,

in a very real way since this is a special event, a crossover episode with

another podcast, one that specializes in analyzing major tech events.

Over the last year or so, I become a huge fan of the acquired podcast,

which you can find in your podcast directory by searching for the word

acquired or by going to acquired. SM. Acquired is hosted by Ben Gilbert who's the co-founder of Pioneer Square Labs, and David Rosenthal, who's a principal at Madrona Venture Group out in Seattle.

And in a way, what they do is sort of a tech history podcast like this one, but their approach comes from a slightly different angle.
