to challenge orthodoxy in ways that few people do and that we truly admire. He pioneered the empirical study of the minimum wage

and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that raising wages in fact does not kill jobs and as a consequence has you know maybe more than any

contributed to improving the lives of millions and millions and millions of people.

I didn't always agree with everything Alan said,

but I was always an admirer of his authenticity and integrity and his decision to live a life committed to service.
