Let me introduce the Reverend W. Scott McAnless, host and producer of a ripping podcast called Retelling the Bible.

Scott is a brilliant storyteller, who presents vignettes from the Bible.

Every episode is a shorter radio play, skillfully written and passionately delivered.

Here's a clip from a recent episode where he dramatizes Paul's escape from Damascus,

Tersely recounted in Acts chapter 9 and Paul's second letter to the Corinthians.

Paul had learned some very disturbing news.

Not only had the ethnarch found him,

he had been able to hire a bunch of goons in the city from among the expatriate Arab population.

The word was that they were laying in wait for him at every exit from the city.

The ethnarch had decided that in order to save his own honor, but here he was, about to step into a large woven basket

and have four burly men lower him by ropes out of a hole in the wall of the city

of Damascus. Once again, Paul was going on the run. Now, that's much more fun to hear than the

Bible's accounts are to read, believe me.

All of Scott's shows are rollicking fun.

I cannot recommend his show highly enough.
