I'm Elvis Mitchell.

We're here on location with director of Bon Joon Hulh, his new film as writer and director is the adaptation of the novel Mickey 17.

So it's good to see you, first of all.

Thank you for doing this.

And in reading the book, there's a line in the book that made me think this was perfect for you.

It says, hope is a funny thing.

And hope is so key to the movies you make. People

have to have hope, don't they?

Especially if we consider the situation that Mickey is in, I wanted to sort of show the audience that if a guy like this can have hope, then you can have hope as well.

And because if I think about sort of my previous films, I've been quite cruel and harsh to my characters.

But for some reason, I wanted to take a different approach with Mickey.

I think my heart just really went out for him, and it was quite sad to see his life.

I wanted to protect him.

We were just talking and getting started here about the claustrophobia in John Carpenter's movies.

And there's lots of claustrophobia in your movies, too.

People in very tight spaces who feel trapped.

Kupdanzer's, the train,

Yeah, an extreme version of that is the train and snowpiercer.

But in this film as well, a lot of the story takes place inside the spaceship. So it's a very

interior story until the climactic sequence when they all run out to the vast snowy field.
