Hello, news today that loads more people are training to be nurses.

The number of applications to study nursing has gone up by about a third according to

UCAS, the University and Mission's Service.

And someone who has done just that is Ari Hodgson,

who joins us from Northumbria right now.

Hi. So tell Ari. Hi.

So tell me your journey.

Where did you start off and how did you end up in nursing?

Left school six form in 2014 and went to do chemistry and ended up going down the medicinal chemistry drug development route but it was working in a part-time job really in skincare in department store

and it was like working with just the general public and helping them feel more confident in themselves that really reinforced like it's caring for people this is what I want to do and then of course COVID hit and that was like weirdly I found that a bit of a sign.

Right. So actually it wasn't like a eureka moment for you.

It was a sort of gradual evolution of you realizing what you wanted to do.

It's like discovering about myself and discovering what I wanted to do as a career path at the same time.

The actual course itself, how is that split up between kind of practical and

learning about medicine in a theoretical way.

There's two days in uni or on Zoom at the moment

going through the series stuff

along with just learning in our own time

and then 22 and a half hours a week on placement.

Right.
