Former National Security Advisor John Bolton pleaded not guilty in federal court this morning to all 18 charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Among the accusations, prosecutors say Bolton shared classified information via unsecured emails with family members.

The judge said he faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.

Bolton's a very vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and he says the charges against him

are politically motivated.

But there are some key differences between Bolton's case and those against two of Trump's

rivals,

former FBI director James Comey, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Here's CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams breaking them down.

Contrasted to some of the other indictments, they were very specific about the information

they put in here, both establishing that the defendant knew who he was sharing things with

and that he knew the content of the documents.
