I'm a big museum goer. Around 2006 I bought tickets for a touring show. There was a lot of buzz about it and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

It has become a runaway hit show. Human bodies, skinned, trimmed,

and essentially pickled or cured in plastic. The show was called Bodies, the exhibition. When I walked in, I was taken

aback. I was surrounded by bodies of once living real people, but the fat and water in their bodies had

been replaced with a synthetic material like silicone.

They'd been turned into life-size anatomy models, their stomachs, legs, heads flayed open.

I could see their organs, veins, and in at least one model a brain.

The bodies were posed like they were having fun, kicking a soccer ball, doing a basketball

layup. Their faces looked like they'd been shaped in various expressions.

Happy, focused, surprised. I couldn't help but look at their eyes.

It was kind of fascinating, but also, it didn't feel totally right,

you know, to be presented with a formerly living human

in this way.
