Summary

The senseless murder of Laken Riley on the campus of the University of Georgia has the nation talking about everything from safety on a college campus to immigration.

Laken Riley didn't know the man who killed her, but she knew she was in a dire situation when they met. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, allegedly attacked and killed the 22-year-old while she was out for a jog in Athens.

Joseph Scott Morgan will explain how the evidence in the case points to Laken Riley attempting to call 911 and Dave Mack will fill in the blanks on the timeline on this edition of Body Bags.

Bodybags with Joseph Scott Morgan. When you're young and you jet off to college after you've been under mom and dad's roof for so long and

0:28.0

you've been through the trials. Those trials that define high school, you think those are trials at that particular time.

0:35.2

Then you get to college and it's a whole new world and I found myself in this

0:39.4

position many times where I just didn't think I could go to another lecture. I didn't think I could go to another

0:46.4

laboratory meeting. I didn't think that I could be around these people any longer.

0:55.0

And my solution to that for a good portion of my younger adult life

1:01.1

was to go to the gym. I did run. I ran quite a bit but I loved going

1:07.1

out and just pumping iron, pushing iron as we used to say because it relieved that stress and you know out of all the

1:14.8

academic pursuits particularly at an undergraduate level there there are not too many

1:19.2

that are more rigorous than nursing school and the reason is is that I guess you could argue

1:24.7

that academically you know if you were in engineering or something like that that is very

1:28.3

rigorous but it's the practicals that you have to the rotations, all those sorts of things and it's you have to stay on top of your studies or nursing is so very difficult.

1:40.6

You have to be able to apply yourself to the point where you are acutely aware of everything that you're learning and understand the application of it.

1:48.0

You need time to let your mind go.

1:51.0

And our case today that we're going to discuss involves a young lady

1:55.6

who just wanted to have a little bit of peace a little break if you will from

2:00.0

the rigors of academia and particularly nursing school. Today we're going to talk

2:06.1

about the murder of Laken Hope Riley at the University of Georgia. I'm Joseph Scott Morgan and this is bodybags.

2:17.0

Here we go again Dave. Another young life needlessly snuffed out before she's come into the fullness of

2:30.1

adulthood where she's free of the bonds of the

2:33.0

university life where she's out on her own.

2:36.0

She's trying to apply those things that she learns in college to make her way.
