where Bobby Marks, a wise man who has been in the NBA for a long time now, whose team has

made a lot of deep playoff runs in that time, years ago told me a lesson that always stuck

with me. And he said to me, when you guys start talking about the offseason and all the

machinations and all the

player movement that's going to happen and who might trade for who and who might go where,

and you start doing that in February, March, April, just hit the breaks for a second and wait

for the playoffs because the playoffs change everything for teams that fail,

for teams that succeed, depending, of course, on the manner of that failure and success.

They can change everything because they reveal any issues, any fissures, any doubt,

any self-doubt, anything like that, it will be revealed

because the competition is too good, the lights are too bright, the pressure is too high,

the stakes are too high, and that, I think, applies mostly to the Boston Celtics, who were absolutely obliterated by the Miami Heat in game three in Miami last night to give the Heat a 3-0 lead in the series.

The Heat are on the verge of completing one of the greatest single season, single season, like in almost in like

weather terms, like spring turnarounds in the history of the NBA, they would be the second

eighth seed ever to make the finals.

They would be tied with the 1978 bullets for, I think, the seventh lowest winning percentage of any team to ever make the finals.

Several of those teams are from the 50s.
