Hello everyone. Welcome back to Subpar with Colt Nost and Drew Stoltz. Well, Slees, it may be a new year, but it's the same old Scotty Schaeffler, winning in his season debut out at the Amex, just absolutely dust in the

0:23.2

field. One by four, felt like it was even more than that, a little water ball on 17 to prove

0:27.6

he was human. But 20th career win, now the fastest to get to 20 wins since Tiger Woods, the only

0:35.2

since Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholas to have 20 wins with four majors before the age of 30, just broke the $100 million career earnings mark. It's a good thing to break. My goodness gracious. How good is this guy? It's dumb. Like we say every time he wins. We do this about seven times a year where we come in and talk about Scotty Schaeffler. It's hard to come up with new stuff i would say this it's first time he's ever won his first start of the year so good luck to everybody else he still finds ways to win six seven times um also those golf courses at the amex like if you're going to say what does scotty not do maybe the best of ever it'd be like he's gotten he's got to become a very good putter, but he's not like the best. And that tournament turns into a putting contest a lot of time because it's resort golf. There's big fairways. There's no rough. There's zero win. Like it shrinks the talent gap, I feel like T to Green out there. You can be an okay ball striker and still have a ton of birdie looks out there. The fact that he goes and does it there where it should minimize his advantage, and not just does it, you have a six-stroke lead with two to go. I mean, dumped it in the water and it still wasn't even close to a thought that he was going to lose. It's just, it's a joke. I mean, any list you're on with Jack and Tiger, those other two names, pretty good to be on. And by the way, he is the second fastest of 20 wins after Tiger Woods, but he got from one to 20 in shorter time than Tiger, which is crazy. Tiger's won earlier. Yeah, he's now won seven of his last 13 tournaments. Out of the 20, he's won. Nine of them have been by four or more strokes,

2:01.3

45%. It's just, when the putter goes, it's game over. He was almost winning a lot of his

2:09.0

tournaments being a terrible putter. And now that he's a top 25 putter on the PGA tour,

2:13.5

I don't know, because I still don't believe he was full throttle this week. I mean, I watched on Thursday when he played Laquinta Country Club. And like you said, you get away with a lot more this week. That's why guys like to start here because they can kind of ease their way into the season, kind of see what they need to work on. He drove it terrible. He had five fairways the first day at Laquinta. I was watching on 16. He's eight under par for the day.

2:36.0

Pull hooks it left. It hits a dude in the head, comes down on the rough, ends up making par. The next hole, but it did show he's hit 16 of 16 green. Next tall, 17, hits it in the rough off the tee again, catches his little flyer, goes over the green. First miss green of the day, chip in hold it it's just how mean, it's just, how good did he chip it on Sunday? I mean, he only chips a few times around, but it seems like he chips it dead. Not like, oh, five feet. It chips. It looks like it's going in a lot of the time. And talking about his putter, like, dude, he made nine birdies yesterday or Sunday. The longest pot was 10 feet five inches. And he's gotten his interview after he was like, you know, I'm knocking some rust. I didn't really love the way I was hitting it. I just kind of hit it in the right spots. And I'm like, you made nine birds and didn't, you made one put over 10 feet. It's pretty good. It's just, I mean, his over under start the season was five and a half wins, which is crazy. That's the number. And now it's going up right now. If you got on that over, you're in a good spot. You got six last year and you didn't get one until May. He's on pace for 20 this year because he don't want to place 20 events a year. That'd be a big year. Big year. It's just so special to watch, man.

3:40.9

And the scary thing is, I know he didn't win as much last year as he did the year

3:46.4

before where he won nine.

3:47.8

He won six this past year.

3:49.0

He did miss early parts of the season, obviously coming off the hand injury last year.

3:53.2

So a little bit of a slower start didn't win his first one until May.

3:56.5

But statistically, the guy's getting better every single year. That's terrifying for the rest of the PGA tour. Yeah, and his 20 wins, like, basically half of them are like runaways. Like, if he play, it's to the point, and not that it hasn't been, but it's for sure to the point where, like, the only hope people have is it's one of the elite players in the world shows up with like their best, best stuff, which doesn't happen all that often.

4:18.4

And you get Scotty not with his best stuff.

4:20.5

Because if he has his best, it's just, it's formality at that point.

4:24.6

His average world ranking points lead over Rory McRoy is the same as Rory's over number 677 in the world, which is a gentleman by the name of Kang. Can't remember his first name. He's coming. That's just how big of a gap it is. It's silly, man. And I just don't see him slowing down anytime soon. This is one of the few tournaments that in his career that he consistently plays that he hadn't won. There was five of them. Now there's not because of the AMX he just took care of. But he's coming to a place now, he's going to have this week off in San Diego, coming here to the WM Phoenix Open. By the way, it's coming. Getting close. I'm fully aware. And by the way, the weather forecast looks incredible. Don't jinx it, but it looks flawless right now.

5:05.5

But coming to a golf course, he's won at twice.

5:08.9

This was the side of his first win.

5:10.9

I mean, what kind of odds do you think he's going to be to win the Phoenix Open?

5:14.2

I mean, it's a great, we got to, it's a very good field.

5:16.3

But I mean, we're talking, it's going to be getting close to two to one to win golf tournaments with world class players. Scottie or the field? We're not there, but we ain't far from there. So I just did an interview actually on the way over here with a local news guy here in Scottsdale. And he's like, you know, people get mad like when you compare Scotty to Tiger. And I said, I get it.
