I followed her work quite extensively,

especially as it relates to not only line 3 and the current pipeline struggles that are happening in

northern Minnesota, but also her work on boarding schools and over the course of the last several weeks I've been returning to

her work whether it was in the Atlantic or an Indian country today as a reference point.

So I don't know if you want to do any formal introduction of

yourself for the audience. Well, bohieu I'm Mary Pember and I'm a national

correspondent for Indian country today and before that I was worked as the

independent journalist and before that I worked for newspapers for quite a while so I'm

Redcliffe Ojibwe from Wisconsin have been focusing on boarding schools since about 2003.

My mother, who passed away in 2011, was a boarding school survivor. She went to the St Mary's

Catholic Indian Boarding School in O'Dana, Wisconsin on the Bad River Reservation.

One thing that, you know, just been as I've been doing these interviews with people who have done research on boarding schools, people who have or who are survivors of boarding schools.

I would say in many ways every Indian person in the United States is in some way

the survivor of these boarding schools.

And although in native communities,

they're kind of, the knowledge of the boarding school experience

is quite extensive.

I mean, we hear about it.

I grew up hearing about it.
