What kind of stuff were you practicing at the time?

Um...

Like, did you have a teacher?

A drum teacher?

I did. It was, it was off and on. I, I, you know, I technically started taking lessons when I was 12.

And I had a teacher and, and that's a whole weird story too, because my older brother was into Nishrin Shoshoshu Buddhism at the time and so I wanted to do

everything he did so I became a Buddhist in 67 and they had a marching band and they said you know

do you want to we need drummers and we need saxophonists and I said said, I'll play drums. So they instantly gave me a

teacher, this guy, Bob Dixon, and he showed me some of the basic rudiments told me to get

a drum book. Are you still into Buddhism? No, I lasted about five or six years, something like that.

You know, I stopped believing in it, but...

Would you chant?

I did. That was an interesting thing.

I, you know, I chanted.

You know, sometimes they would have all night, not vigils, but they would have, you know,

they would chant all night. It was very interesting to be young they would have you know they would chant all night it was it

was very interesting to be young kid and you know you know doing that you know at a

temple in Santa Monica so so so yeah I did and the interesting thing is they

had a marching band and a big band.
