Today, Blue Story is banning the film racist. Where you from?

I love this guy! You just heard the trailer from Blue Story, the film by Rap Man that's been years in the

making. It's about two young black boys, childhood friends from different London post codes

who get caught up in rival gangs. It went on general release across the UK last Friday, but by Saturday the very next day,

two cinema chains, View and Showcase had pulled it from all their cinemas

nationwide. It was after a huge fight broke out at the Star City

multiplex in Birmingham. There were reports of someone carrying a machete and seven police officers were injured.

Since then, a man and five teenagers including a 13 year old girl have been arrested.

The only way I can describe this is a racialized moral panic over the representation culturally of young black men.

I feel like there are other films that have come out in the past which has had a high level of violence

and which incidents have happened around the time the films were premiered and they've not been pulled so it makes me

question why was Blue Story been treated differently to the other films that have come out?

The decision to ban the film has received a huge backlash. People have called it racist,

institutionally racist, they've called it anti-Blackness in action and said that it's

suppressing black art. Hash tags, no blue, no view and boycott view were trending over the weekend.
