interest group, Moms for Liberty.

Two weeks ago, when Niger's government fell in a military coup, many leaders of other

West African countries hoped to halt the contagion.

The chaos might be giving ideas to ambitious generals in their own armies.

The most strident opposition to the coup came from Bola to Nubu, the president of neighboring

Nigeria and current chair of the economic community of West African states, or ECOWAS.

The regional block condemned the coup and soon offered an ultimatum.

If Niger's ousted president Mohammed Bazoum was not restored by this past Sunday,

a military intervention could follow.
