For solidity, profundity, massiveness, majesty, and the exhibiting from Scripture,

God's ways with sinful mankind,

there is no one to touch John Owen.

In an age of giants, he overtopped them all.

So next to Jonathan Edwards, I love John Owen.

The first volume of his collected works with Banner of Truth

has three essays in it on the glory of

Christ. Christologia or a declaration of the glorious mystery of the person of Christ, one,

meditations and discourses on the glory of Christ, that's two, and meditations and discourses

concerning the glory of Christ applied.

Applied.

Those of you who weren't here in the first hour, you don't know why I'm laughing, but.

A whole book of application which is just chock full of doctrine about the glory of Christ and I

suppose that volume has done more to increase my understanding of

and admiration of the glory of Christ

than anything else I've ever read besides the Bible,

except maybe for the sermon by Jonathan Edwards

called the Excellency of Christ.
