Before we start today's podcast, we wanted to name the moment that this podcast is being released in.

So many in our unspooled community because of the color of their skin have the privilege to drop in and out of this comfort fear and exhaustion of this week.

Some in our community because of the color of their skin must live with a discomfort and fear and exhaustion every single day.

We stand in solidarity with those protesting the continued state violence by police that has taken the lives of Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, to mirror rice, Kendra James, Sean Bell, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling,

McQuan McDonald, Freddie Gray, Walter Scott, Fernando Castile, Sandra Bland, Amad Aubrey, Sean Reed, Brianna Taylor, George Floyd, and the countless others in their families who are left with an unimaginable grief.

To those protesting right now, we thank you.

This is a moment to take action.

If this country is serious about wanting a better future, we need to be reflecting on our past to do better tomorrow.

For some of us, that means having tough conversations with our family and our friends.

If you're looking for a movie to start that conversation or just because we can all always keep learning years of your titles, they are all streaming.

Fruitvale Station, when they see us, just mercy, the hate you give.

And there's also a few great documentaries, the 13th, the murder of Fred Hampton and the fabulous James Baldwin documentary, I am not your Negro.

And of course, there is do the right thing, which continues to be powerful and relevant.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one who keeps thinking of what Spike Lee said on this show that the murder of Radio Raheem matters more than the burning of Salis Pizzeria.

There are so many places to donate at this time.

I'm sure you've seen lists of names and organizations and go funny pages and bail out funds.

And I just want to take a moment to talk about one organization that means a lot to me, which is Black Lives Matter.

Black Lives Matter are boots on the ground, making active change in communities.

I can speak to Black Lives Matter LA and say that they were behind a giant movement, the people's budget of LA that defunded big government organizations like the police and put that money into education and homeless outreach and into building up our community.

It's something that is incredibly necessary and they're doing this work all over and they need your help and support whether that's a monthly donation, maybe $5 or $10 or I don't know how much money you have or don't have.

I'm just saying that whatever you can spare, it's worth it.

It's a cup of coffee a month if you do $5 a month.
