Today, what black women want from Joe Biden? What to expect from the conventions and divorce via video conference

For the past three years or so

I have really been focused on black women who we say are the backbone of the Democratic Party

But I really wanted to talk about what that meant and especially what that means in this moment and headed into 2020

I'm Aaron Haynes and I'm editor at large at the 19th

Black women have frankly always been kind of the caregivers in America, right?

And that's from slavery to Jim Crow to now

But but also even before they were free and before they were able to vote

Black women recognize the power of the vote and fought twice as hard to get it

And so for all their hard work

I think that I'm hearing from them that we are now in a moment where they want that hard work to pay off for them

With the party that they have been the most loyal to for for more than in generation

When you say that black women in America are the backbone of the Democratic Party and some of the most loyal party members

What does that actually mean from like a demographic or like a number standpoint?
