0:46.5 | they think of the Oregon Trail and Lewis and Maryweather, and that's it. Not many people envision |
0:54.0 | a state that was predetermined to be whites only, a state that gave any Black people in the area, |
1:05.2 | men, two years to get out of the state after they decided that it was going to be whites only, |
1:10.0 | and Black women, three years. And if they didn't leave, they were in fear of their life, |
1:15.3 | or being beaten as punishment. When we think of our current city, we think of Portland as being |
1:24.6 | progressive and liberal and inclusive. But what we don't know, or what we don't think about, |
1:31.6 | is how much history really does influence us now. And the history of Oregon is that the foundation |
1:39.3 | was whites only, which then created an environment for the KKK to move in and prosper. Yeah. |
