Black Friday is here, but Sunday is coming. For the Colston Center, I'm John Stone Street with the

point. Black Friday is less a day this year and more of a couple weeks. We might not see the normal

chaos from Walmart and Best Buy. Folks not trampling each other over smartphones or TVs is an

improvement, of course, but the idol of stuff still claims socially distanced hearts and minds

in our culture, too. One way is through the artificial

perfections of Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook, pictures of perfectly decorated homes or

Instagram-worthy holiday celebration videos with perfectly behaved children doing a lipstick.

They've become just another distraction within this season that is meant for holy reflection

and joy. This Sunday begins the season of Advent. It's a time set aside

in the history of the church for prayer, charity, and even fasting to prepare us to celebrate the

birth of Jesus and to point our hearts to his return. Over the years, we've compiled resources
