In the 1860s, a Native American child was born named Black Elk.

Raised among the Lakota people of the Great Plains, he grew up to become a medicine man.

Black Elk had multiple paranormal visions. He participated in the Messianic Native American Ghost Dance

Movement and he took part in famous events like the Battle of the Little Big Horn and the Battle

of Wounded Knee. Who was Black Elk? What happened in his life and what are the hidden truths about him?

Jimmy, what do we need to say to begin? Well, today we began a two-part story

about a Native American man named Black Elk. In this episode, we will tell you about what was

publicly known about him for much of the 20th century and next week we'll tell you the secret

story of what was deliberately kept from the public by the authors who wrote about him.

Also, today's story occurs during a violent period of Native American history

and we will have some descriptions of what was happening on battlefields during the conflicts

between Native Americans and US federal forces. So be aware of that.
