The New York Times used to be called the Grey Lady of Journalism, but it's trying hard

of an ever to shed that image.

Increasing the diversity of columnists and other opinion makers.

One example is Jane Koston.

She's the new host of the paper's podcast

called The Argument. She is biracial. She is a proud libertarian. I talked to her about race and politics

and cancel culture. It was while the George Floyd trial was still underway. And the conversation

took place after I thanked her for being on my podcast.

Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate it. You describe yourself as a registered

libertarian. I don't think the listeners to my program have heard from a lot of registered

libertarians, certainly not as a program hosts being sponsored by the New York Times. What does it mean to be a registered

libertarian as far as you're concerned? Well, in the micro level, it means that I am a registered

member of the libertarian party. If you look up my election record, it says that I am a registered

libertarian. It does not tell you who for whom I have voted, but it does tell you that.

And I think that for me, it's interesting because one of the funny things about the libertarian

movement or the libertarian party is the challenge that libertarians face is that many people

really like libertarian-leading ideas, particularly when it has to do with something that's important

to them.

So, for example, if you are concerned with the state having a lot of power over your life,

you have a lot of libertarian leanings when it comes to you.
