On the morning of May 29, 2002, the police in Ocean City, Maryland received a call from

police in Fairfax City, Virginia. In Fairfax City, about 170 miles or 275 kilometers

away from Ocean City, a woman had been reported missing. When her co-workers called in the report,

they told authorities that she had gone on vacation with her boyfriend to Ocean City,

never returned. When the police tried to get in touch with her boyfriend, it turned out that

he was nowhere to be found either. After a little digging, it looked as though both of them had

never made it back from their vacation. Fairfax City Police explained that the couple had stayed

at the Atlantis condominiums and they had driven there in the woman's red acura, which had a

personalized license plate that read Genie C. A detective from the Ocean City Police Department

drove out to the Atlantis condos and immediately found the vehicle. He was one of the few in the

parking lot and despite there being a number of open spaces right up by the entrance to the building,

this car was parked all the way at the end of the lot. In a beachside city, sand blows everywhere

and seeing the sand that had collected around the base of the tires on the car indicated that it

hadn't been driven for days. Inside the condo, the detectives found all of the couple's personal

belongings, their clothes, their toiletries, a camera, and there was even a laptop sitting on

the table with some paperwork next to it. On the table, there were also four wine glasses
