It's Thursday, May 20th. Welcome to Marketfoolery. I'm Chris Hill with me today. Mr. Bill

0:07.3

Man. Good to see you, my friend. How are you, Chris? Thanks for having me on.

0:11.9

I am better for the side of you. We are going to talk retail. We're going to talk space

0:18.0

outer space, specifically. Can we talk about Bitcoin, which we almost never do on this

0:23.3

show, but Bitcoin fell 30% on Wednesday. It did a thing. I'm not a currency investor,

0:32.1

but I don't recall the euro or the US dollar ever falling 30% in a single day. I think

0:40.3

we talked about Coinbase on this show when it went public and it's down about 30% from

0:47.9

its IPO. I remember thinking at the time, and maybe I even said at the time that Coinbase

0:53.2

seems like an easier way to invest in Bitcoin if you're so inclined because it's a platform.

1:03.1

Take this in any direction you want, but I am curious what went through your mind when you saw

1:11.3

one little part of the financial world on fire yesterday. I mean, it's a bigger part than that.

1:16.7

I mean, you're talking about hundreds of billions of dollars of no-sional value that were wiped off

1:25.8

that were eliminated yesterday. A lot of people have pointed to Elon Musk coming out and saying

1:34.0

that Tesla was no longer going to be accepting Bitcoin for environmental reasons. By the way,

1:41.6

here's my prejudices. I side with Elon Musk on this, but whatever, it's an asset that's out there.

1:48.0

Giving him credit for that would be the same way as, remember that Volkswagen commercial

1:52.4

where the kid thinks he's using the force to start the car? That's Elon Musk, right? The person

1:58.5

who's actually hitting the button is China. China decided this last week they announced that they

2:04.8

are no longer going to be allowing cryptocurrencies as a mode of exchange. That's a big deal.

2:11.6

That is a big, big deal, much bigger than Elon Musk doing the force thing.

2:19.8

Yeah, so there are huge questions about what Bitcoin is, whether it is a store of value. I suspect

2:26.5

that it's a store of value in the same way that art and baseball cards are a store of value.
