So it's a little wonder that we consider ourselves to be the ultimate masters of sound.

But there's an extraordinary group of animals that might just be able to do better. Those animals are birds.

Nearly half of all the birds on earth are what is known as songbirds,

and most of them are able to produce elaborate songs, like this one from the Nightingale.

Songbirds can be found in pretty much every country around the world.

Wherever you go, it's pretty likely you'll catch a refrain or two drifting across the air.

Since I started birding at such a young age, hearing bird song is just a natural part of being awake.
