So I got this email and it had a face on it and said, I think we might be related and I'd like to talk to you.

And when I saw that little face, I knew she was mine.

That's Hope.

A few years ago, she did an at-home DNA kit from Ancestry.com.

I wanted to see if my heritage was, in fact, what my parents told me I was.

So I did the test, and sure enough, I was exactly what they told me I was.

Hope got her results, and there were no big surprises.

That is, until a young woman named Karen reached out,

claiming to be a biological match.

Oh, my gosh, I was thrilled.

Karen told Hope she was looking for some insight into her biological family.

Hope, who was in her 70s, was happy to help.

She provided Karen with all the information she could and answered a bunch of her questions.

And then?

She said, would you call me?

And so we had a phone call.
