Summary

Exactly one year after the murder of John Tunstall, a Lincoln County miracle occurs: Jimmy Dolan and Billy Bonney make peace. The two warring factions agree to stop fighting, but the armistice doesn't hold. As Billy pursues a risky plan to earn a pardon from the new governor, a murder shatters the peace agreement and threatens Billy's hopes for amnesty. 0:54.3	Ben Hayes appointed Lou Wallace the new governor of New Mexico territory.
0:59.3	When Wallace arrived, he surveyed the mess in Lincoln County.
1:04.8	He pushed the military commander of the New Mexico District to remove Colonel Dudley
1:09.1	from Fort Stanton, and his wish was granted.
1:13.1	Dudley was out, and a new man was in charge of the fort.
1:17.5	And then, in mid-November, 1878, Governor Wallace made a declaration.
1:24.9	He offered amnesty for all crimes committed in Lincoln County between February 18th, the
1:30.7	day John Tonstell was killed, and this day, November 13th.
1:36.6	But there was a catch.
1:39.0	The pardon only applied to crimes that had not been indicted, so if you had participated
1:44.7	in the killing of someone but had not been indicted for it, you were free to go.
1:50.2	But Billy and virtually all of the regulators had already been indicted for one murder
