0:00.0	Well, hello there. Over the last week, I've gotten quite a few questions regarding the notorious
0:05.1	Billy the Kid croquet photo, so I thought I'd weigh in. Don't worry, part three in the Billy the
0:10.2	kid series will debut as planned, brightened early Wednesday morning. This is just sort of a bonus episode.
0:16.7	I think I've only mentioned the croquet photo in passing, but I have stated several times
0:21.1	that there's only one authenticated picture of Billy the Kid.
0:24.7	So I figured now's a good time as any to clarify my position, my thought process, and why
0:29.6	I believe this given the evidence currently at my disposal.
0:33.1	Right off the bat, let me just say that I have no dog in this fight.

0:37.6	passionate about, and should there be future evidence proving that the croquet photo does
0:42.7	really depict Billy the kid? Great. History is the study of past events. If something
0:47.6	happened, it happened. By the way, if you don't know what photo I'm referring to, is the

1:05.6	That said, it is my position, as of this recording, that there is not enough evidence to prove the photo in question
1:12.3	depicts Billy the kid. When it comes to authenticating these old pictures, you must have provenance,
1:17.9	or in other words, a history of ownership. The verified tin type of the kid, the one that everybody
1:23.3	agrees is really Billy with a goofy look on his face and the rifle in his hand has a clear
1:28.2	line of provenance. Thanks to Polito Maxwell, we know the photo was taken at Fort Sumner,
1:33.6	more than likely toward the end of 1880 or very early in 1881. There were originally four
1:39.2	identical tint types, but the only copy that still exists to this day is known as the Diedrich
