There are several ways you can construct a documentary on an artist.

First of all, you can gather up a bunch of books written about them, along with any magazine

articles and newspaper clippings and all the press releases you can find.

Then you read everything, you make notes and write everything up, which is fine.

But books and magazines and newspapers can get dated very quickly.

A more contemporary way would be to go online.

Wikipedia is pretty good and getting better,

but you're right to be skeptical about what you read.

Information can be incomplete.

It can come from suspect sources, from people with agendas and biases, and articles can be

loaded with the dreaded citation-needed notation.

No, no, the best way to construct a profile on an artist is to round everybody up, put them in a studio,

and get them to tell their story themselves. But that can be really difficult, especially

with a band. Beyond touring and recording schedules, everybody has their own lives and may even

live in different cities. So putting everybody in the same place is often impossible. But

it can be done. It took a while, but we did it. I have all four members of Billy Talent in one
