And basketball's patriarch passed away yesterday.

So today we honor the great Bill Russell.

Mike, there are so many directions and ways to discuss

him. He was such a complete person, complete player, the game's greatest winner. And I'd like to

touch on as many aspects of him as possible over the course of this pod. You've met Russell

in your travels.

What do you remember of him as we think about his passing?

Well, what a great loss for society, really, not just in America, but in the world.

And Bill Russell was one of the few figures who I think that the awe that he inspired was pretty obvious, even in a room of other awe-inspiring people.

And so that would include LeBron, that would include Kobe Bryant.
