This is Michael Cohen and you're listening to the Mayor Copa podcast. Memorial Day, a time to reflect

with friends and family is also the unofficial beginning of summer. But there were sixteen

mass shootings over Memorial Day weekend. And I'll say it again, sixteen mass shootings.

And yet, Republican members of Congress and the conservative majority of the Supreme Court

say it's constitutionally impossible to stop the mass murder of our children and everyone else

because the Second Amendment says so. I just have to say respectfully that there is a way for us to

have common sense of gun laws. There is a way for us to make sure that lawful, responsible

gun owners like yourself are able to use it for sporting hunting, protecting yourself.

But the only way we're going to do that is if we don't have a situation in which anything that is

proposed is viewed as some tyrannical destruction of the Second Amendment.

The Second Amendment is why we can't go to pretty much anywhere without the fear of getting shot

to death. The Second Amendment is why you can't be immediately arrested for openly carrying around

an assault rifle into a Walmart and why you can't be immediately arrested for smuggling a handcanon

in your box of shorts to the gym. The Second Amendment is how law enforcement justifies the need

for military-grade armaments to of course match the firepower they meet in the streets.

The Second Amendment protects fucking idiots who shoot wolves from helicopters with machine guns.
